BUSNA Announces 2026 Webinar Series
Birdshot Uveitis Society of North America is pleased to announce its 2026 Webinar Series: Birdshot Perspectives. Each presentation will be given by a leading birdshot specialist and will relate to the treatment or management of birdshot uveitis.
BUSNA’s goal for this project is to empower those with birdshot uveitis through various educational presentations.
The first webinar in the series will feature Dr. Akshay S. Thomas, M.D., M.S., FASRS. “Monitoring Disease Activity in Birdshot Retinochoroiditis” will be a live webinar and will last for one hour. We hope to see you on Sunday, April 26, at 1 pm ET.
Dr. Akshay Thomas is a Retina Specialist and Ocular Immunologist at Tennessee Retina. He completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and received the Alfred Maschke Award for Excellence in the Art and Practice of Medicine. Following his ophthalmology residency at the Casey Eye Institute of the Oregon Health & Science University, Dr. Thomas completed a two-year fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina at Duke University, where he was named the Hornaday Fellow for Excellence in Ethics, Clinical Care and Research. He also was the recipient of the Ronald G. Michels Fellowship Award, the highest honor that can be given to an American senior vitreoretinal surgery fellow. He then completed a second fellowship in Uveitis and Clinical Ocular Immunology at the Casey Eye Institute.
Dr. Thomas currently serves as the Director of the Uveitis Service, Director of the Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship and Director of the Research Fellowship at Tennessee Retina.
BUSNA will host additional webinars later this spring and again in the fall. Some of the topics to be covered include intravitreal implants, systemic medications, and insurance issues. Details of future webinars will be posted once details have been finalized.
